Healthcare navigation made clearer

Find, prepare, and follow your healthcare journey with confidence

CareAhead is an accessible healthcare navigation platform that uses clear, multilingual visual, audio, and text guidance to help newcomers understand where to seek care, prepare for appointments, communicate their needs, and follow their next steps in Canada’s healthcare system.

CareAhead is currently an early-stage prototype being developed and tested with input from newcomers, caregivers, healthcare professionals, and community organizations.

The navigation challenge

Understanding the system can be harder than it should be

For many newcomers in Canada, everyday healthcare questions can feel overwhelming.

Where should I go first—a walk-in clinic, urgent care, pharmacy, or emergency department?

What will happen during my appointment, and what should I expect?

How do I explain my symptoms when I am unsure of the right words or terminology?

What instructions am I supposed to follow after my visit?

What do I need to bring, and how do I prepare for my appointment?

How do I know if my concern is urgent enough for emergency care?

These challenges can lead to delayed care, repeated visits, and unnecessary anxiety. CareAhead is designed to make the path forward easier to understand, step by step.

How CareAhead helps

Guidance at every step of the journey

CareAhead organizes support around three simple moments: before, during, and after a healthcare visit.

Before my visit

Find the right place to go, prepare questions, and understand what to bring—available in plain language, visuals, and audio.

During my visit

Communicate needs more confidently with guided prompts, terminology helpers, and real-time support for conversations with care providers.

After my visit

Follow clear next steps, remember instructions, and know when to return or seek further care.

Built for accessibility and clarity

CareAhead combines multilingual support, plain language, visual guides, and audio options so that people with different literacy levels, languages, and access needs can use the same trusted resource.
